The planning team – representatives of several different organizations and agencies – thank you for your interest and support for this 2018 “In My Mind: LGBTQ+ People of Color Mental Health Conference – My Identity Matters.” The conference will be held at Metropolitan College of New York, 60 West Street, NYC starting at 9:00 am (check-in and registration begin at 8:00 am) on Thursday, Oct 4, 2018, and Friday, Oct 5, 2018, ending each day at 5:30 pm.

This year, we expect to present concepts, ideas, thoughts, and the benefit of study/research, by academics, clinicians, advocates and activists, and consumers on how a person's sense of self, their identity, affects or impacts their mental health. We intend to build on the work from last year, that is, to encourage professionals and consumers to be able to talk with each other, to share information. Consumers, advocates, and activists would have the opportunity to learn of challenges, often thought of as imagined, but which are real, and importantly, occasions for, leading and encouraging healing, to assist with a person’s growth; and academics and clinicians, opportunities to hear real-world stories and experiences, to assist with driving their continuing or future research and study for the benefit of these communities.

Registration

Knowing that many people who will benefit from this conference, whether academics, clinicians, advocates, activists, consumers or students are often unable to afford the usually exorbitant conference registration fees, that the organizers have diligently worked to ensure affordable prices – students and consumers pay the least.

Our registration fee structure occurs in three periods:

Advanced/Early (Apr 1 to May 31),
Standard/Regular (Jun1 to Sept 30), and
Late (Oct1 to Oct 5) Registration.

The fee structure consists of the following categories:

Advocates, Activists, Consumers (including Seniors), and Students (with valid Student ID)
Clinicians and Academicians (including Academicians requiring CE/CEUs),
Government Agencies - federal, state and city (local)
We welcome DONATIONS to assist with Conference-related costs.

Sponsoring a Conference Attendee

Sometimes, a person/s would register and not attend. That person's registration fee would be used to provide a scholarship for someone who wants to participate in the conference, but cannot afford it; given the daily stresses many LGBTQ peoples of color are living with, being able to afford to attend this conference should not be an additional stressor.

Donation

With the mental health of LGBT peoples of color as the focus of this conference, and given the often prohibitive costs associated with hosting a conference, this conference is intended to be affordable for everyone who wants to attend. We ask you to consider donating to the conference, to assist with costs, including, providing a light breakfast and lunch for the two days, audiovisual equipment rental, and printing conference materials, such as notepads, folders, pens, a conference journal with the schedule and souvenir/commemorative T-shirts.

Cash will NOT be accepted at the registration/check-in table. The conference uses an online facility, NOTE: PayPal and Square to accept all major credit/debit cards.

Accommodation

Presenters, coming from outside the NYC area/region, are responsible for their own travel and accommodation (the Conference organizers secured discounted hotel accommodations at the Holiday Inn Manhattan Financial District, which is located next to the Conference venue.

La conferencia se llevará a cabo en el Metropolitan College of New York, 60 West Street, NYC, a partir de las 9:00 a. m. (la acreditación y la inscripción comienzan a las 8:00 a. m.) el jueves 4 de octubre y el viernes 5 de octubre de 2018. Finaliza ambos días a las 5:30 p. m.

Este año, esperamos presentar conceptos, ideas, pensamientos y beneficios de estudios e investigaciones por parte de académicos, médicos, defensores, activistas y consumidores, sobre cómo el sentido de sí mismas, la identidad, de las personas afecta o influye en su salud mental. Nuestro propósito es seguir ampliando el trabajo del año anterior. Es decir, alentar a los profesionales y a los consumidores a dialogar y compartir información. Los consumidores, los defensores y los activistas tendrán la oportunidad de aprender de los desafíos, que a menudo se consideran imaginarios, pero que son reales. Cabe destacar que estos desafíos constituyen oportunidades para impulsar y alentar la sanación y el crecimiento de las personas. Los académicos y los médicos podrán escuchar historias y experiencias del mundo real que los ayudarán con sus investigaciones actuales o futuras en beneficio de estas comunidades.

Inscripción

Sabemos que muchas personas a las que esta conferencia podría beneficiar (tales como académicos, médicos, defensores, activistas, consumidores o estudiantes) a menudo no pueden pagar los exorbitantes costos de inscripción para las conferencias. Por eso, los organizadores nos hemos esforzado por garantizar precios accesibles. Los estudiantes y los consumidores son quienes pagan menos.

La estructura de precios de la inscripción se divide en tres periodos:

Avanzando/Anticipado (1 de abril a 31 de mayo)
Estándar/Normal (1 de junio a 30 de septiembre)
Tardío (1 de octubre a 5 de octubre)

La estructura de precios consiste en las siguientes categorías:

Defensores, activistas, consumidores (incluye a ancianos) y estudiantes (con identificación de estudiante válida)
Médicos y académicos (incluye a académicos que requieran educación continua o unidades de educación continua)
Agencias gubernamentales federales, estatales y municipales (locales)

Patrocinio de asistentes a la conferencia

En ocasiones, algunas personas se inscriben pero no asisten. El cargo de inscripción de esas personas se usa para patrocinar a alguien que desea participar en la conferencia pero no puede pagarla. Considerando que muchas personas LGBTQ de color ya sufren estrés todos los días, no deberían tener la preocupación adicional de no poder pagar la inscripción a esta conferencia.

Donación

Debemos tener en cuenta que la salud mental de las personas LGBT de color es el foco de esta conferencia, y que organizar una conferencia tiene un costo a menudo elevado. Nuestra intención es que este evento sea accesible para todos los que deseen asistir. Le pedimos que considere donar para la conferencia para ayudar con los costos, que incluyen desayuno y almuerzo livianos para ambos días, alquiler de equipos audiovisuales e impresión de material (blocs de notas, carpetas, bolígrafos, una revista con el cronograma de la conferencia, souvenirs o camisetas conmemorativas).
